FORM FOLLOWS FORCE
A curve against the wind.
The 125 m footprint gives the four foundations leverage against overturning. Curving inward keeps the piers close to the resultant load path, limiting bending as wind pressure acts on the tower.
Open lattice reduces exposed area. Diagonals prevent the frame from racking. Members become finer upward as the loads they carry diminish.
The great lower arches are decorative,
not the primary load-bearing system.
